Ibo Perez Killed in Single-car Accident on F.M. 3167 in Starr County, TX
Rio Grand City, TX — December 25, 2025, Ibo Perez lost his life in a single-car accident at approximately 1:30 a.m. along Farm to Market 3167.
According to authorities, 65-year-old Ibo Perez was traveling in a northwest bound Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on F.M. 3167 in the vicinity southeast of the F.M. 649 intersection when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the pickup truck failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It was consequently involved in a single-vehicle collision in which it apparently overturned. Perez—who had reportedly sustained fatal injuries over the course of the accident—was declared deceased at the scene.
Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When a single-vehicle crash claims a life in the early morning hours, it’s tempting to chalk it up to driver error or fatigue. But those assumptions can lead investigators to overlook other critical factors. A fatal rollover like this one calls for a deeper look into what might have gone wrong beyond the surface.
1. Did the authorities thoroughly investigate the crash?
Understanding how and why the vehicle left its lane requires a detailed scene analysis. Did investigators document skid marks, gouge patterns, or the vehicle’s final rest position relative to the road? Was there evidence of a steering correction or braking attempt? If the crash wasn’t fully reconstructed, key details about the vehicle’s path and timing may be missing—leaving questions unanswered about whether this was a preventable departure or something more sudden.
2. Has anyone looked into the possibility that a vehicle defect caused the crash?
A truck veering off-road and overturning could be the result of a mechanical failure—steering linkages, tire blowouts, brake lockups, or even electronic malfunctions. In a vehicle like a Chevrolet Silverado, which is designed to handle rugged conditions, any unexpected failure should raise immediate red flags. If no post-crash inspection was done, that potential cause may remain buried.
3. Has all the electronic data relating to the crash been collected?
Most modern pickups are equipped with event data recorders that can capture vital information in the seconds before a crash—speed, throttle input, braking effort, and steering activity. That data could clarify whether Perez tried to correct course or whether the vehicle behaved unpredictably. Phone data or local surveillance footage may also offer insight into what was happening just before the crash, especially on a holiday night when traffic patterns may be unusual.
A single-vehicle fatality should never be treated as routine. Without a close look at every angle—human and mechanical—the full truth about what happened may never come to light.
Takeaways:
- Fatal single-vehicle rollovers demand a complete scene reconstruction to understand vehicle behavior.
- Mechanical issues may cause sudden loss of control, even in stable vehicles like pickups.
- Onboard data and phone records can be key to determining what happened in the final moments.
