According to these reports, the weather and road conditions in the area at the time were rainy and wet. 30-year-old Jacoby Dywayne Larue Mahome and a 27-year-old woman were traveling in a westbound Chevy Malibu along U.S. 290 in the vicinity south of Tuscany way.

Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, the Malibu failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It reportedly veered left, crossing into the shoulder on the south side of the roadway and crashing into a guardrail. The vehicle came to rest in the left-most lane of the highway.

Mahome incurred fatal injuries as a result of the wreck and was declared deceased at the scene. The woman from the Malibu sustained apparently moderate injuries, as well, and was transported by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. The investigation continues.
