Javier Briones Killed in Work Accident near Dilley, TX
Frio County, TX — April 30, 2024, Javier Briones was killed as the result of a work accident which happened around 11:33 a.m. along County Road 4670.
In an initial OSHA report, the accident happened west of Dilley on CR 4670/Hugo Road near Pancho Garcia Road.
According to officials, 37-year-old Javier Briones was doing maintenance work on a light tower. While doing so, Javier Briones was electrocuted. There were no other reported injuries.
The OSHA statement listed four alleged "serious" violation citations. They also listed a recommended penalty. Additional details are unavailable.

If OSHA was able to confirm that there were violations from their investigations following this accident, that's obviously a serious issue. But even when OSHA issues citations and penalties against an employer, that doesn't necessarily mean all that much to a worker's family.
Generally speaking, the legal paths through which OSHA holds negligent employers accountable and through which families get the help and the resolution they need are very different. In fact, Texas has uniquely challenging laws that stand between families and a fair resolution. That's why families who have independent professionals guiding their path tend to be able to navigate those paths more efficiently that those who assumed a damning OSHA report would do all the work.
At the end of the day, it's important to have someone prioritizing the needs of a worker's family for them to get a proper conclusion under Texas law.
