Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
One of the challenges with single-vehicle wrecks is simply that they don’t always get the attention they need. I get calls all the time from folks who feel that authorities either brushed their situation aside or weren’t fair in their efforts to get answers. Single vehicle wrecks are among the worst offenders for this.
Sometimes, authorities aren’t given the time they need because not all departments see single-vehicle wrecks as a priority. If officers are forced to move on too soon, they can miss vital information. Alternatively, some officers are too quick to go with their gut, which can lead them to jump to conclusions rather than hearing out the victim’s side of the story and letting the evidence speak for itself.
Whatever the situation, single-vehicle wrecks tend to fare better in the hands of independent professional accident reconstructionists. Not only do they have the experience and tools to investigate complex possible factors, such as vehicle defects, they also take the time to let the facts do the talking rather than hasty assumptions. It remains to be seen if this crash is getting that kind of attention.
