Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When a crash results in someone losing their life, especially in a single-vehicle incident, it’s natural to want clear answers about what actually happened. That clarity, however, depends heavily on how much effort and attention authorities give the investigation.
Did authorities have the right resources to investigate thoroughly?
Not all departments are equipped the same way. If a crash is treated as routine, it may not get the reconstruction or analysis needed to explain key details—like why the vehicle left its lane or whether any outside factor played a role.
Was the vehicle checked for mechanical issues?
A sudden failure—whether it’s steering, brakes, or even a tire—could be a contributing factor, but unless someone conducts a proper mechanical inspection, that possibility might never be considered.
Did anyone review onboard or external data?
Between vehicle systems, GPS, and nearby surveillance, there’s often more information available than people realize. That data can be critical in building a complete picture of how the crash unfolded.
At the end of the day, authorities may have taken steps to let the evidence speak for itself. Otherwise, it might take more thorough independent investigations to ensure all sides of the story are being told.
Takeaways:
- A crash like this still deserves full investigative attention.
- Vehicle problems may not be obvious without inspection.
- Data from the car or surroundings might offer important context.
