Kaufman County, TX — June 22, 2024, Jerry Watkins was injured as the result of a motorcycle accident at around 2:35 a.m. along North Frances Street.
Investigators said in preliminary statements that the accident happened in the area of the North Frances Street and Thornbriar Drive.
According to officials, 57-year-old Jerry Bryan Watkins was on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle going northbound along Frances Street. On a curve in the road, the motorcycle somehow lost control and crashed along the side of the road.
Due to the accident, Jerry Watkins was seriously injured. There did not appear to be anyone else involved in the accident.

My hope is that this accident got a proper investigation from authorities. With motorcyclists, there’s always a concern that officials will be biased and just assume the rider did something wrong. Ensuring the victim gets to tell their side of the story sometimes takes independent investigations, as that can help prioritize the facts and keep bias out of the way. Whether or not those steps were needed here remains to be seen.
