John Zamarripa Killed, 1 Injured in Car Accident on Hillcrest in San Antonio, TX
UPDATE (October 25, 2023): Further information from officials identified the man killed in the accident as John Anthony Zamarripa. No further information can be confirmed.
San Antonio, TX -- February 16, 2023, one person was killed and another was hurt in an accident where two vehicles crashed on Hillcrest.
Investigators said that the accident happened at around 11:00 a.m. on Hillcrest near Crestview Drive.
Officials reported that a Jeep was going the wrong direction on westbound Hillcrest when it collided head-on with a car. Due to the collision, the Jeep driver sustained fatal injuries. The other driver had injuries that weren't described as serious.

Right now, the cause of the crash is unclear. But something makes me wonder if authorities are giving the incident the attention it deserves. I've seen statements saying they're looking into why the Jeep was "in the wrong lane." That would obviously be important after a wrong-way crash, but is that really what happened?
It's incredibly unusual to see a wrong-way collision just before noon rather than late at night or early in the morning. What's more, this isn't a divided roadway. It makes me wonder if this was actually a crossover wreck rather than a "wrong way" crash necessarily.
As much as that may seem like a nitpick, the wording of a crash can conjure up all kinds of possible factors in people's minds. It only makes it that much more crucial to ensure there are clear facts there to tell the full story. Hopefully authorities are being more thorough than these preliminary reports suggest.
