Reports say that the salon belongs to a famous stylist, Jonathan Wright, who announced free giveaways and other incentives for people who showed up early to the grand opening. This reportedly resulted in hundreds of people camping out for the opening.

Throughout the morning, authorities say there were reports of heat exhaustion and also the use of a “chemical” substance, possibly to disperse the crowd. Numerous people were seen by EMS responders, though it’s unclear if anyone was taken to the hospital.

The salon owner reportedly was cited following the event. Other details are unavailable.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

There are certainly a lot more questions than answers here. One that comes to my mind is: How did the owners not see this coming? A person with millions of followers announcing first-come, first-serve rewards is bound to draw a huge crowd and create significant chaos. It raises the questions of why they decided to take this route, why there weren’t more safety measures in place, and what lessons will be learned to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
