Nueces County, TX — January 24, 2025, Jose Aguinaga Jr. and one other were injured after an alleged drunk driver accident at around 5:47 p.m. along F.M. 70.
According to initial details from authorities, the incident happened near the intersection of F.M. 70 and F.M. 49, south of Corpus Christi.
Investigators said that 68-year-old Jose Aguinaga Jr. was in a BMW going eastbound on F.M. 70. It appears a westbound Ford F-350 failed to stay in its lane, and the vehicles collided. Due to the collision, both Jose Aguinaga and the Ford driver were injured.
Authorities said that the Ford driver may have been under the influence, but this wasn’t confirmed. No other details are available.

If authorities confirm that alcohol was a factor here, people might believe that would make things open-and-shut. In reality, alcohol-related accidents can be incredibly complex—that is if investigations are taken seriously. While authorities often begin and end their investigations at a drunk driver’s actions, drunk drivers often have help from an accomplice: a negligent alcohol provider.
In Texas, bars, restaurants, liquor stores, and other establishments can be responsible for over-serving someone who is obviously intoxicated. This can expose them to potential criminal investigations, fines, suspended licenses, or liability for injuries resulting from that intoxication. Not only are these potential avenues an opportunity to see a wrongdoer held accountable for their actions, it’s an opportunity to put them on the straight-and-narrow before they get someone else hurt.
That’s why it’s so frustrating every time I get a call about a drunk driving accident, our investigations show there was a complicit negligent alcohol provider involved, and authorities are nowhere to be found. If they aren’t taking the time to look beyond the crash scene and an individual driver’s actions, they may not be getting the victims and families involved the full story they deserve.
