Houston, TX — March 6, 2024, Julio Mejia Espinales was killed following a hit-and-run accident at around 5:00 a.m. on Blackpool Lane.
Preliminary details about the fatal accident say it happened near the intersection with Veterans Memorial Drive.
According to police statements, the incident involved 48-year-old Julio Mejia Espinales. Mejia Espinales was reportedly on foot at the time when it appears a black Ford F-150 struck him. That vehicle apparently turned down a street, dragging Mejia Espinales some distance. Authorities claim the driver, identified only as a Hispanic male, got out of the vehicle, checked on Mejia Espinales, then returned to the vehicle and drove away from the scene. Mejia Espinales died as a result of the collision. There is no information at this time to suggest authorities have identified the suspect driver.

How come I haven’t seen more details about this since initial reports? Have authorities not released any footage or images relating to the accident? Getting help from the community is often a crucial step toward identifying and apprehending runaway drivers. Someone is usually able to connect the dots so the victim’s loved ones can see justice done. But if authorities have yet to release more details on this, I don’t feel confident saying they’re really giving this situation the attention it deserves.
