UPDATE (April 26, 2023): Authorities released names of the victims involved in the deadly truck accident. According to their statements, 66-year-old Kendall Morgan was in a Freightliner which was going northbound along the interstate. A southbound Kenworth tractor-trailer somehow lost control, crashed through the median, and struck Morgan's semi head-on.

As a result of the collision, Morgan sustained fatal injuries. Also fatally injured in the crash was a passenger in the Kenworth, identified as 29-year-old Tiffanni Smith. The driver of the Kenworth, identified as 30-year-old Michael Henson, was taken to a hospital. At this time, the exact cause of the crash remains unclear.

Smyth County, VA — April 22, 2023, two people were killed and one person was injured following a tractor-trailer accident early Saturday along I-81.

Investigators with the Virginia State Police stated that the crash took place at approximately 6:22 a.m. along Interstate 81 near mile marker 39.

Current information surrounding the crash suggests it involved a tractor-trailer that lost control and ran off southbound lanes of the interstate. The tractor-trailer went left across the median, sending it into northbound lanes. There, it crashed with an oncoming tractor-trailer before then hitting a barrier.

As a result of the collision, two people sustained fatal injuries. A third person was said to have injuries believed to be life-threatening. Right now, the exact factors leading up to the crash are still under investigation. The cause of the accident remains unconfirmed.
