Atascosa County, TX — November 9, 2024, Kyle Teran was injured following a truck accident at approximately 12:45 p.m. along State Highway 16.
According to authorities, 26-year-old Kyle Teran was traveling in a southbound Chevrolet Cruze behind a Volvo 18-wheeler hauling a trailer on S.H. 16 in the vicinity north of Thompson Road when the accident took place.

The 18-wheeler was reportedly slowing in preparation to make a right turn onto Thompson Road. Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, the Cruze failed to appropriately control its speed, resulting in a collision between the front-end of the Chevy and the rear-end of the 18-wheeler’s trailer. The impact caused the Cruze to overturn, rolling an unknown number of times before coming to a stop resting on its wheels.
Teran sustained serious injuries over the course of the accident, according to reports. He was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When accidents like this occur, people often assume they result from a single, straightforward mistake. However, in my decades of experience with commercial vehicle accident cases, I’ve seen time and again that such incidents usually involve multiple contributing factors. Proper investigation is essential to uncovering the truth.
What caused the Chevrolet Cruze to collide with the rear of the slowing 18-wheeler? Was the driver distracted, speeding, or otherwise not paying attention to the truck’s movements? Could the truck’s actions—such as its signaling, speed of deceleration, or position in the roadway—have contributed to the crash? Understanding the dynamics of how this collision unfolded will be critical to determining what happened and why.
It’s also important to examine the role of the trucking company. Were the 18-wheeler’s brake lights and turn signals functioning properly to alert other drivers of its intentions? Commercial vehicles must be rigorously inspected and maintained, and lapses in those duties could easily play a role in an accident like this. Additionally, was the driver adequately trained and following company safety protocols? The trucking company’s practices and policies deserve scrutiny in any case involving one of their vehicles.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to examine every factor to ensure those impacted by the incident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
