Child Hospitalized in Life Jacket Accident in Weatherford, TX
Weatherford, TX — July 20, 2025, a child nearly drowned as the result of a possible faulty life jacket accident at Lake Weatherford

According to preliminary reports, Ashley McCombs and her children were at the lake swimming. One of the children, a 6-year-old, apparently disappeared at some point when he was reportedly dragged under water, despite wearing a life jacket.
The child was taken to a hospital and reportedly is expected to be okay. Currently, news reports suggest that the life jacket may have filled up with water, causing the child to be pulled down in the water. There have yet to be additional details about an inspection of the life jacket or investigations into the manufacturer.
Investigations continue.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
If the details about this accident are true, then it's a huge relief that this didn't end in a fatality. Parents shouldn't have to worry about something as important as a life jacket doing the exact opposite of what it's meant to do. Even if this is the only time this has happened, there needs to be an investigation into this product and its manufacturer. If there is an issue with the product, the public needs to know before another incident occurs with a more dire outcome.
