Forrest County, MS — December 17, 2025, Louis Clairborne III was killed as the result of an 18-wheeler accident at around 2:00 p.m. on Interstate 59.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened in the area of Monroe Road, north of Hattiesburg, along northbound lanes of the interstate.
According to officials, 28-year-old Louis Clairborne III was in a Buick going along the interstate. That vehicle reportedly collided with an 18-wheeler as traffic slowed. Due to the collision, Louis Clairborne sustained fatal injuries.
Additional details about the accident are unconfirmed at this time. Investigations are ongoing.

After deadly wrecks like this, families often think they’re stuck waiting in the dark until authorities decide it’s time to give them some answers. But if families want answers, they can get them. That’s why I always talk about the importance of following up with authorities early and often to find out if anything’s not adding up.
For example, here are some key questions I ask following commercial vehicle accidents.
- Are authorities dedicating the time and resources needed to do a thorough accident reconstruction?
Departments don’t all prioritize crash investigations, which means officers may not have the time or tools they need do actually do their jobs. Finding out a department is already moving on to other responsibilities can be a red flag. - Have authorities inspected the vehicles for potential defects?
This could be anything from brakes to steering to crash avoidance systems to seatbelts and airbags. Defects can cause sudden loss of control or otherwise turn survivable crashes into deadly ones. It takes inspections of the vehicles early on to catch that evidence before it’s lost, repaired, or destroyed. - Did authorities secure all electronic data?
Most modern trucks and cars have Engine Control Modules which may show speed, braking, and steering inputs leading up to the crash. Also, cellphone records and video from nearby cameras or dash cams can be vital. This evidence also tends to be time-sensitive, so officers dragging their feet to secure it can cause issues.
Simply put, when the answers to these questions come up short or aren’t adding up, that can be a sign that the crash needs independent investigators to step in and make sure nothing important slipped through the cracks. However, if authorities can provide clear, satisfying answers, that can be a significant weight off a family’s shoulders. Either way, being proactive helps people decide what next steps are best for their needs.
