UPDATE (October 31, 2025): Authorities identified the victims injured in the accident as Joshua Rodriguez and Madaline Ortiz. Authorities apparently filed charges against the other driver for alleged intoxication assault.
As I originally mentioned in my commentary below, a lot of details here raised red flags for potential drunk driving. With these new details, that makes a question even more crucial to answer: Was this driver unlawfully over-served by a negligent alcohol provider? And if so, is that provider going to be held responsible?

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
A 2:00 a.m. crash is always going to raise red flags, since that's when bars close. That's especially true in a college town. However, investigations have to be thorough without jumping to conclusions. So beyond the possibility of alcohol, things like cell phone usage, vehicle defects, roadway conditions, and all sorts of other possible factors need to be a part of the conversation. If authorities aren't considering all of this, then there may need to be more thorough independent investigations.
