Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
There are a lot more questions than answers here, and I have to wonder if it’s true this involved an unoccupied semi-truck. That would raise serious concerns about where the truck was in relation to the road, where the driver was, whether or not it was marked and clearly visible, and why it was stopped in the first place.
For example, there would be a big difference between a well-lit truck on the shoulder that experienced an unexpected mechanical issue versus a truck without any markings partially in a lane of travel because of something avoidable, like running out of gas or mechanical issues related to lack of maintenance.
Hopefully authorities are working diligently behind the scenes to thoroughly reconstruct the events leading up to this collision, but a lot of commercial truck wrecks end up needing multiple sets of eyes looking things over to ensure nothing important slips through the cracks.
