Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When it comes to single-vehicle accidents, things aren't always as simple as folks may think. Authorities don't always see them as a high priority, so complex possible factors can slip through the cracks if there aren't secondary, independent investigations to catch them.
Was there a vehicle defect? Did something in the road cause the crash? Did a tire blow out? Did the victim have a medical emergency? Did a lack of signage or lighting contribute to the accident? Likely or not, investigators must be prepared to rule out these kinds of things. Otherwise, they risk jumping to conclusions without giving the victims the chance to tell their side of the story.
