Rider Injured in Motorcycle Accident on Western Street in Amarillo, TX
Amarillo, TX — August 11, 2022, a 22-year-old man was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on Western Street in Randall County.
Authorities say the incident happened around 11:10 p.m. on South Western Street at Ridgecrest Circle. Preliminary investigation suggests two Harley-Davidson motorcycles were traveling south on Western when one allegedly tried to make a right turn on Ridgecrest and entered the other's path. The bikes collided and then overturned at the intersection's northwest corner.
One of the riders suffered serious injuries in the collision. The other rider was reportedly unhurt.

People sometimes make the mistake of thinking that what they see in preliminary reports is essentially all there is to know, but the fact is those rarely have all a crash's important details. Take the Amarillo wreck, for example: Taken on its face it may look like a basic if unfortunate traffic accident, but what if there's actually more to the story?
For instance, the wreck reportedly happened in a construction area; was it clearly marked? Was there still ample room for traffic? Did any debris from the work zone make the road hazardous? Furthermore, officers alleged the motorcyclists may have been under the influence of alcohol. If the blood tests they ordered confirm that, is it possible the riders were illegally over-served by a bar or other local business?
I'm not saying I know more than police about what happened in Amarillo, but I think most would agree that investigators should do everything they can to find the whole truth—not just whatever's "good enough for government work." I hope for that young man's sake that police did everything they could to get the whole story.
