San Angelo, TX -- March 7, 2023, a motorcyclist sustained injuries due to an accident where a van crashed with them on South Bryant.

Initial details about the crash say that it happened at South Bryant Boulevard and Avenue L just after 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. Details say that a motorcyclist was northbound on Bryant while a Ford van was southbound. As the Ford attempted a left turn onto Avenue L, the two vehicles collided. The unidentified motorcyclist was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported. At this time, additional details are unconfirmed.

Considering this is a controlled intersection, it seems most likely that this will come down to who had the right-of-way. As simple as that may seem, I'm always concerned whether or not a motorcyclist involved in a crash is going to get a fair shake.

Since I've been doing this for decades now, I know that many riders are perfectly responsible drivers and deserve as much benefit of the doubt as anyone. But many folks immediately assume motorcyclists were being reckless just because that's how they think of all motorcyclists. Do riders make mistakes? Obviously, yes. But if authorities don't exercise prudence and let their biases get the better of them, they can miss something important. I just hope authorities here are more thorough than that and let the evidence speak for itself.
