Hidalgo County, TX — January 13, 2024, Myrna Gonzalez was killed following a hit-and-run accident at around 6:30 p.m. along Monte Cristo Road.
Initial details about the accident say that it happened in the area of the West Monte Cristo Road and North Ware Road intersection.

According to officials, 57-year-old Myrna Gonzalez was in a Kia Forte going southbound on Ware Road. Gonzalez reportedly stopped at Monte Cristo before then attempting to make a left turn onto the roadway. While doing so, though, police say a westbound Ford pickup driving without its lights on crashed into the Kia.
Due to the collision, Gonzalez sustained fatal injuries. After the crash, authorities say three people in the pickup fled the scene on foot, however details suggest authorities identified those suspects. Charges were recommended, and authorities said it’s possible alcohol contributed to the crash.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Frankly, I would have been surprised not to see authorities suspect alcohol as a factor. Sober drivers don’t just go around with their lights off, and alcohol happens to be a very common reason drivers flee the scene of an accident. There apparently are several charges authorities recommended here, but if they find out that alcohol was involved on top of all that, it could lead to even more complex factors like filing charges related to drunk driving and even looking into whether or not a local bar illegally over-served them. But if authorities moved on assuming the only suspects were the ones in the vehicle, something important could slip through the cracks.
