Osvaldo Brandon Verdugo Killed in 18-wheeler Accident in Kerr County, TX

According to officials, 20-year-old Osvaldo Verdugo was in a Chevy Silverado said to be going eastbound on I-10. It appears the Chevy somehow went out of its lane to the left, hitting the median barrier. The vehicle then veered right into a guardrail before going back to the left and through the median cable barrier. This resulted in Verdugo’s vehicle crashing with an oncoming semi-trailer. Verdugo sustained fatal injuries as a result. No other injuries were confirmed.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Right now, authorities suggest that unsafe speeds may have been a factor here. I certainly don’t know if that’s true or not only seeing these preliminary public reports. But I always encourage folks to take initial statements like these with a grain of salt. Frankly, there’s no way to tell between an officer’s well-supported conclusion and an officer’s baseless speculation unless all the evidence is clear.

I don’t mean this to disparage any particular officers—certainly not whoever is in charge here. But I’ve handled hundreds of wrongful death cases, and authorities don’t always have the time, equipment, or experience to properly investigate serious commercial truck wrecks. That’s one of the reasons that my team and I as well as authorities themselves often turn to independent accident reconstructionists. A dedicated professional with experience looking into serious wrecks helps ensure nothing important slips through the cracks.

So while speed may have been a factor here, I would take that with a grain of salt since the public is only seeing a small piece of the much larger picture here. It could be there’s still much more to this story police have yet to discover.
