Houston, TX — April 4, 2024, a pedestrian was killed following an accident involving a police vehicle at around 2:42 a.m. along Loop 610 West.
In initial statements, authorities said the collision occurred on northbound lanes near the I-10 interchange and Memorial Drive.

According to officials, an off-duty police lieutenant was in a city-owned vehicle traveling along the interstate. While doing so, it appears there was a pedestrian in the lanes of travel. The officer could not avoid the pedestrian, striking them in the roadway. Another car then hit the police officer's vehicle.
The pedestrian died due to the collision and has yet to be publicly identified. No other injuries were reported. Right now, factors leading up to the accident are unclear.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Hopefully the incident at least gets proper attention from investigators. Pedestrian accidents unfortunately tend to slip through the cracks. Folks often think if the victim wasn't in a crosswalk, there's just nothing to discuss. But there can always be extenuating circumstances worth considering, and there may be loved ones out there in need of answers.
