This isn't the first time this particular facility has made it on my blog. Another fatal fire happened here in January 2023. To be clear, I'm not going to speculate about either accident or the factors surrounding them. But when a particular workplace sees two similar accidents about a year apart, it's either a really unlucky business or there's something more going on.
With that said, getting answers for Texas workers and their families can be incredibly challenging. The simple reason for that is because Texas has the most complex work injury law of any other state in the U.S. Texas does not require employers to subscribe to the workers' comp system, meaning the process by which victims get the help they need is far from a one-size-fits-all solution. Getting folks the help they need, then, can be a delicate process that the average person simply isn't likely to have the ability to navigate on their own. I don't see any reason why this incident would be an exception to that.
