Richard Aguilar Injured in Car Accident in Balmorhea, TX
Reeves County, TX — March 6, 2024, Richard Aguilar was injured due to a car accident which happened around 2:15 a.m. off of Highway 17.
Preliminary details released by authorities say that the crash took place off the corner of Highway 17 and the south I-10 frontage road.
According to investigators, 31-year-old Richard Aguilar was in a Ford Expedition going southbound on Highway 17. After the interstate overpass, the Ford apparently continued across the frontage road, ran off-road, then crashed into an 18-wheeler which was in the parking lot of Uncle's Gas Station. Due to the collision, Aguilar had apparently serious injuries. No one else was hurt.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
The facts here seem a bit unusual because drivers don't usually just fly through a T-intersection like this. As much as folks may jump to certain conclusions, I'll offer a word of caution that there could always be something unusual that led to the crash. In fact, it's possible the victim simply had no way of avoiding it.
I'll give an example for those who remain skeptical. A colleague and i recently discussed a rather unusual crash that initially didn't draw any special attention. At first, the reports said a man ran a stop sign, and a truck hit him as a result. Folks just wrote that off as a reckless driver, but a friend of the firm who did accident reconstruction in the area revealed something shocking—there was no stop sign. A road crew removed it while doing work at the crossing, but they failed to replace it when they left. As a result, the victim had no way of knowing he was even supposed to stop.
Just to be clear, I'm not saying that happened here. My point is preliminary reports rarely tell the whole story, and it'd surprise folks to see some of the details authorities let slip through the cracks. Sometimes, there's nothing out of the ordinary to discuss. Other times, there are extenuating circumstances that only come to light after more thorough investigations. Whatever happened here, folks should simply avoid jumping to conclusions. Getting to say, "I told you so," isn't worth the risk of blaming someone for something they had no control over.
