Bailey, NC — November 27, 2024, Roberto Ramos-Madrigal was killed in a car accident about 6 p.m. on New Sandy Church Hill Road.

Authorities said a pedestrian was walking behind a semi-truck that had been parked on the road when he was hit by a vehicle. The vehicle also crashed into the semi-truck.

Roberto Ramos-Madrigal, 30, died at the scene of the crash near North Carolina Highway 581, according to authorities. He was not the driver of the semi-truck.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Robert Ramos-Madrigal was not injured. The 21-year-old is not facing any charges at this point, authorities said.

Authorities reportedly blamed the crash on low visibility in the area south of Bailey.

The investigation is ongoing, as authorities are working to determine why the semi-truck was parked on the road.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Looking at the stretch of road where this happened, it is concerning that authorities said there was a semi-truck parked in a lane of travel. It appears to be a narrow two-way street with no sidewalks. Short of some unusual, unforeseeable emergency, there’s not really any good reason for a truck drive to do that. It raises serious questions about why the truck stopped, how visible it was and whether a reasonably prudent professional driver would have created these dangerous circumstances.
