Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
After any serious crash, clear details will be hard to come by in the immediate aftermath. What people are usually concerned with is how investigations proceed in the coming weeks. Despite what people may think, authorities are not always going to prioritize accident reconstruction versus clearing the scene. That’s why it can be important to make sure early on to consider a few key questions:
- Are authorities putting enough time and resources into the investigations?
- Are investigators considering the possibility of vehicle defects?
- Is all electronic data being preserved (including phone records, vehicle data, and video)?
If these questions are being answered, it’s usually a good sign that investigations are being thorough. If not, then that may be a sign that there may need to be a second set of eyes looking things over.
