As open-and-shut as these preliminary details seem, it's important to ensure that all possible contributing factors have been considered. Everything from road conditions to alcohol to vehicle defects to lighting and signage. Even analyzing the performance of crash avoidance technology or vehicle integrity can reveal factors that a typical police investigation might overlook.
Doing this can help ensure that victims and families see a proper resolution and get whatever help they can following a serious car accident. If it's just taken for granted that authorities will take care of everything on their own, important details are bound to slip through the cracks.
