Love County, OK -- February 3, 2023, Roger Hilburn was killed, Julie Hilburn, Jamaar Carter Jr., and Jalen Harvey were injured in a truck accident near Marietta.

According to details from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the crash happened along I-35 outside of Marietta at around 1:00 p.m.

They said that Roger Hilburn and Julie Hilburn were in a motor home traveling northbound on the interstate. Jamaar Carter Jr. and Jalen Harvey were in a semi-truck ahead and apparently came to a stop for traffic. The motor home then hit the back of the truck, killing Mr. Hilburn.

Julie Hilburn, Carter, and Harvey were all taken to hospitals with various injuries. Additional details about factors surrounding the crash are unavailable at this time.

Something that stood out to me is that in some reports, it's said that the motor home failed to slow down, causing the crash. In other reports though, it was said that the truck "stopped", causing the accident. In all likelihood, this is just imprecise wording by some news outlets. But I never make that assumption without seeing the facts for myself, and I would discourage others from taking this sort of thing lightly. While it can certainly just be mistake, it can also sometimes be a sign there's more to the story than the public is seeing. Whatever ultimately happened here, it may take far more thorough investigations to ensure the victims and families involved know they're getting the whole story.
