Cherokee County, TX — November 12, 2023, Sabrina Gray was killed and Pete Garner was injured following a car accident at around 5:26 a.m. along U.S. 175.
Authorities said in their statements that the crash occurred just east of Cuney near County Road 3316 along the southeast lanes of U.S. Highway 175.
According to officials, 41-year-old Sabrina A. Gray was in a Dodge Dart going westbound along U.S. 175. 59-year-old Pete Garner was in a Ford F-250 pulling a trailer eastbound. Initial details about the crash indicate that Gray was traveling on the wrong lane driving into eastbound traffic when the vehicles collided head-on. However, additional details from authorities suggest the vehicle may have crossed over the center line leading up to the collision. This information can’t be confirmed right now.
Due to the collision, Gray succumbed to her injuries while Garner’s injuries were described as incapacitating. No further information about the crash can be confirmed at this time.

It would be quite significant if authorities did distinguish between a vehicle crossing the center line rather than driving into oncoming traffic. Some may not see that as anything but nitpicking, but consider what it takes for someone to drive the wrong direction and what state of mind they’d have to be in to not notice they were on the wrong side of the road. That’s why a lot of wrong-way collisions end up involving intoxicated drivers (which, to be clear, has not yet been ruled out).
However, someone crossing the center line, then hitting someone can happen for all kinds of reasons. Fatigue, tire blowouts, road hazards, medical conditions, hydroplaning, avoiding something in the road—these are just some of the many possibilities investigators would have to look into. Right now, I don’t see any information from authorities that rules out any of this. That’s why I wanted to help folks realize that this crash may not be as simple as the initial reports may have made it seem. Hopefully authorities have at least been working behind the scenes to clear up what actually happened here.
