Two Injured in Single-Vehicle Accident on Capital Beltway near Alexandria, VA
Alexandria, VA — April 28, 2023, two people were injured due to an accident where the vehicle they were in crashed off the Capital Beltway around 3:50 a.m.
Authorities responding to the scene were called out to I-495 in the area of South Van Dorn Street (Highway 401) near Franconia.
Details surrounding the crash are still under investigation at this time. It appears from initial statements a pickup pulling a trailer loaded with two other vehicles was going along westbound lanes of the beltway. For reasons unclear, the pickup lost control and veered left across the median. It then was said to have crashed through a barrier into eastbound. The vehicle then apparently caught fire.
As a result of the crash, two people inside the pickup had injuries. The injuries were said to be critical initially. Their current conditions are unclear. Authorities say that the cause of the fiery wreck is still under investigation at this time.
