Sylvia Crosby Rivers Killed in Hit-and-run Accident in Wheeler County, TX
Wheeler County, TX — August 21, 2023, Sylvia Crosby Rivers was killed following an apparent hit-and-run accident overnight along Interstate 40.
Investigators said in preliminary statements that the incident took place along the Interstate 40 service road. Authorities were not able to determine an exact time for the accident.

According to current public statements, 43-year-old Sylvia Crosby Rivers was on foot along the side of the south service road. It's believed that her vehicle had become disabled along I-40 for unspecified reasons. Authorities say evidence showed that a vehicle struck Rivers along the roadway, then left the scene.
As a result of the collision, Rivers succumbed to fatal injuries. A dog also was killed in the collision. At this time, no further information can be confirmed pending further investigations.
