I don't have any more information about this crash than what's available already in the news. However, looking at this stretch of road—and considering the time of day at which this occurred—I can't help wondering how the truck driver failed to see the disabled SUV in time to avoid it. Is there poor visibility here? Was weather bad at the time? Was the truck driver on their phone or going too fast? Did worn brakes or tires prevent the truck from stopping in time?
There are many reasons a crash like this can happen, and frankly a lot of them involve someone making a big mistake. Hopefully authorities are working quickly but carefully to preserve evidence and ensure the victims and families involved are getting all the details going forward. Perhaps this all was simply unavoidable. However, experience tells me there were likely problems that need to be brought to light.
