A lot of people will see a single-vehicle truck accident and jump to conclusions. However, there's something that rarely gets the attention it deserves: possible mechanical issues.
Commercial trucks are complex machines, and they require a lot of regular inspections and maintenance to ensure everything works smoothly. What I've learned throughout my career—and what any experienced trucker will tell you—is that some companies out there put drivers behind the wheels of dangerous vehicles. Companies put off maintenance to cut costs, and it's the drivers and others on the road who pay the price.
On top of that, though, there's the possibility of defects. Authorities are sometimes so focused on clearing a scene that they just rush the truck out of the area, and it either gets destroyed or repaired without getting a proper inspection. If a driver gets injured due to mechanical issues they had no way of knowing about, that needs to be brought to light so it can be addressed properly.
Maybe there wasn't a mechanical issue involved in this accident, but that's up to the evidence to say for sure. What I'm wondering is if proper steps have been taken to preserve evidence and have experienced accident reconstructionists at least rule out these possibilities.
