3 Injured in Truck Accident on S.H. 43 in Marion County, TX
Marion County, TX — December 20, 2024, three people were injured in a truck accident at approximately 7:45 p.m. along State Highway 43.
According to authorities, three people—a 47-year-old man, a 14-year-old boy, and a 10-year-old girl—were traveling in a northbound Chevrolet Avalanche on State Highway 43 at the F.M. 805 intersection when the accident took place.

The Avalanche was reportedly attempting a left turn onto F.M. 805. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a northbound Freightliner 18-wheeler with a trailer in tow attempted to pass the Toyota on the left in a no-passing zone. This resulted in a collision between the back left of the Toyota and the front-right of the Freightliner.
The adult man from the Toyota sustained serious injuries as a result of the wreck. The children who were with him in the Toyota sustained moderate injuries, as well. No other injuries have been reported. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When crashes like this occur, people often assume they stem from simple driver mistakes or misunderstandings on the road. However, in my experience, crashes involving 18-wheelers are rarely that straightforward. They often require a thorough investigation to uncover the underlying issues that contributed to the collision.
One of the primary questions to address in this incident is why the truck driver attempted to pass in a no-passing zone, a maneuver that is not only dangerous but illegal. Was this decision purely a lapse in judgment, or were there external pressures influencing the driver's actions? Commercial truck drivers are often under immense pressure to meet delivery deadlines, which can lead to risky behavior such as speeding or making ill-advised passing attempts. Investigators should scrutinize whether these factors played a role in the truck driver's decision to pass where it was prohibited.
Another critical aspect of the investigation should focus on the trucking company. Companies have a responsibility to ensure their drivers are properly trained and adhere to all traffic laws. Did the company provide adequate safety training, or did its policies or schedules encourage risky driving behavior? Additionally, it’s essential to determine whether the driver had a history of reckless driving or other safety violations. If so, why was this individual allowed to continue operating a commercial vehicle?
The truck itself is also a significant factor. Was it properly maintained, with all safety systems—including lights, brakes, and signals—functioning as they should? Mechanical issues can sometimes exacerbate or even cause dangerous situations on the road, and a comprehensive inspection of the truck could reveal whether such factors contributed to this crash.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to examine every factor to ensure those impacted by the incident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
