Commentary by Michael Grossman
It's not entirely clear if authorities believe that the oncoming vehicle was on the wrong side of the road or if it suddenly crossed over. This is a lot more than a distinction without a difference. Late at night, if someone is on the wrong side of the road, it brings up the very serious possibility that the driver was intoxicated.
But if a vehicle suddenly crosses over, it's more likely something like fatigue, distraction, a tire blowout, etc. Alcohol is always possible, of course, but it's important to know that authorities were careful behind the scenes not to be flippant in their explanations. Rather, it's important they got the victim's loved ones a clear understanding of exactly what led to the crash. Did that happen here?
