Wallace Fauquet III Killed, Two Injured in Fuel Truck Accident on I-95 in New London County, CT
New London County, CT — April 24, 2023, Wallace Fauquet III was killed and two people were injured in a fuel truck accident around 11:17 a.m. on I-95 in New London County.
Authorities report the semi-truck hauling home heating oil and a Toyota Avalon were both southbound on the Gold Star Memorial Bridge, from Groton to New London, when the two vehicles collided. Authorities believe the Toyota suffered from a defect that caused it to become disabled when it was then rear-ended by the fuel truck.
The impact reportedly caused the semi-truck to overturn and spill around 2,200 gallons of fuel onto the bridge and into the river. The fuel then purportedly ignited and created a massive wall of smoke and fire that spread to Groton's land.
The truck driver suffered fatal injuries and the two occupants in the Toyota were reportedly transported to a hospital. No other injuries have been reported.
