One of the things to keep in mind following any serious truck wreck is that early details can be scattered and chaotic. Not only that, but at least one person had to be flown from the scene due to their injuries. Sometimes, authorities are so focused on securing the crash scene that they forget to follow up with victims, meaning their preliminary reports may only tell one side of the story.
That's why it's important for victims and families to consider key questions about the investigations. Have authorities mapped out the scene? Have they pulled vehicle data? Did they secure cell phone records? Was there video of the crash from any nearby businesses or residences? Did they inspect the vehicles for potential defects? Did they analyze the condition and design of the roadway?
Likely or not, these are the kinds of questions I can reliably expect independent accident reconstructionists to answer. Sometimes, that simply confirms everything authorities already know. Other times, an independent investigation can show that authorities overlooked crucial details. Either way, the priority should be to ensure that all sides of the story are being told fairly.
