Lawrence County, AL — November 21, 2023, Bailey Kirton was killed and Christopher Kirton was injured following a semi-truck accident at around 12:45 a.m. on Highway 20.

Preliminary details about the crash say that it happened just outside of Hillsboro in the area of Alabama 20 mile marker 55.

Officials said in statements that 20-year-old Bailey Kirton and 53-year-old Christopher Kirton of Grand Prairie, Texas, were in an SUV going along the highway. Somehow, a semi-truck came into contact with the Kirtons' SUV, causing the vehicle to go off-road and overturn. As a result, Bailey Kirton succumbed to the injuries she sustained in the crash. Christopher Kirton was taken from the scene with unspecified injuries.

Right now, there still does not appear to be any reported cause for the deadly crash. Considering someone lost their life, that lack of information concerns me. Generally speaking, news outlets hound authorities for details following deadly truck wrecks. But considering this crash happened just before Thanksgiving, it may have unfortunately slipped through the cracks as all the news writers checked out over the weekend.

The real concern, however, is if authorities were able to give this crash the attention it deserves. It's one thing for us in the public not to know the whole story. It's a different situation entirely if the victims and families involved aren't getting the answers they deserve. I can only hope authorities didn't let the holidays affect their handling of this crash.
