Christopher Corey Reed Killed in Motorcycle Accident in Smith County, TX
Smith County, TX -- March 8, 2023, Christopher Reed was killed in a motorcycle accident at around 12:30 a.m. in Smith County outside Liberty City.
Officials said that the incident happened along FM 1252 near the intersection of County Road 3104. Details say 41-year-old Christopher Reed was on a Harley Davidson traveling westbound on FM 1252. For reasons not yet confirmed, the motorcycle ran off-road where it crashed and ejected Christopher Reed. Christopher Reed sustained fatal injuries as a result.

There are many factors that can lead to crashes like this, and I've looked into plenty of situations where a motorcyclist was simply the victim of circumstances they couldn't possibly avoid. Yet almost all of those situations had people immediately assuming the rider did something wrong. Even authorities often do this. Why?
Put simply, there is an all too common negative bias against motorcyclists. People tend to see them all as reckless daredevils who put themselves and others in danger. Obviously, we've all seen a rider here or there being irresponsible, but the same is true for any kind of vehicle. In fact, I've found motorcyclists to be some of the safest drivers out there because they have to worry about larger vehicles cutting them off all the time.
I can't say what may or may not have happened here without clear evidence, but my hope is authorities were prudent enough to let the evidence speak for itself. I'd hate to see yet another family not getting the answers they deserve simply because an inexperienced or imprudent officer let their bias get the better of them.
