David Michael Barry Injured in Car Accident in San Marcos, TX
San Marcos, TX — November 17, 2023, David Michael Barry was injured following a car accident at around 11:15 p.m. on East Hopkins Street.
According to officials, the crash occurred at the intersection of East Hopkins Street and North Guadalupe Street.

From investigators, it appears that 54-year-old David Barry was on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle going eastbound along Hopkins. At Guadalupe, police say a westbound car failed to yield making a left turn, crashing with Barry's motorcycle.
As a result of the collision, Barry sustained apparently serious injuries. No one in the car appeared to be injured. Authorities mentioned a recommended citation for the car driver, but additional details are unconfirmed at this time.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
It's encouraging to see authorities lay out a clear series of events here, but I hope they've preserved the evidence that led them to their conclusions. That's important after any wreck, but motorcycle wrecks can be particularly delicate.
Put simply, people are more likely to believe that a motorcyclist was being reckless even if there isn't evidence saying as much. Insurance companies know this, so see it as a prime opportunity to shift blame onto victims to avoid responsibility. Letting those claims run unchecked can give room for people's negative bias to fill in the blanks.
But if there's clear evidence to support the motorcyclist's side of the story, that negative bias has less footing to warp the facts. As such, making sure authorities don't lose track of any important details can be a prudent step for any future obstacles that may arise even if the story seems straightforward right now.
