Luis Rivera Jr. Killed in Gravel Truck Accident off Jara Chinas Road in La Joya, TX
Hidalgo County, TX — January 2, 2024, Luis Rivera Jr. was killed following an accident at a gravel pit at around 5:04 a.m. along Jara Chinas Road.
Officials with the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office gave details to the public saying the accident happened at a gravel pit north of the Jara Chinas Road and West Mile 7 Road intersection.

According to their statements, 46-year-old Luis Rivera Jr. was described as an "independent" driver at the pit to pick up a load of gravel. While there, something unspecified led to the truck cab being crushed. Rivera was found dead in the truck when emergency services arrived.
Authorities did not say if the truck overturned or if something landed on and crushed the truck. Additional details about the accident are unavailable pending further investigations.
