Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Right now, the cause of the incident remains unconfirmed. I'm always concerned with accidents like this, since there's a possibility (however slim) that a mechanical defect led to this accident. That's not the sort of thing authorities are generally equipped to handle on their own. It would surprise folks to see how often authorities wrote something like this off as operator error, then it turned out they never even bothered investigating the vehicle for possible defects. At the end of the day, there's a family in need of answers. They deserve to know that even unusual details have at least been ruled out.
