Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With single-vehicle wrecks, authorities are sometimes too hasty in their investigations. There can be all kinds of complex factors to consider, but they can easily slip through the cracks without proper attention.
Was lighting or signage an issue? Were there problems with the roadway itself? Did the victim's vehicle have defects, affecting steering or braking? Did their airbags and seatbelts function as intended? Likely or not, these are the sorts of things a thorough accident reconstruction should cover.
In my experience, I can reliably expect to see answers from independent accident reconstructionists. Authorities, on the other hand, sometimes drop the ball. It's important victims and families are vigilant so they can ensure safety nets are in place just in case authorities drop the ball on their situation, too.
