Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With any single-vehicle accident comes the challenge of making sure investigations have been thorough. It often surprises people when authorities look into a crash only to find the details are still scarce weeks later. Sometimes, authorities are just being careful with their words until they have all the facts. Other times, though, the investigations weren't thorough enough.
Departments might lack the time, tools, or experienced personnel to rule out more challenging possible factors, like defects, road design flaws, or issues with signage, for example. That's why families often feel more comfortable when there's a second set of eyes looking things over. If they can't feel confident they're getting the whole story, it's only reasonable they'd be skeptical of whatever story authorities end up with.
