Trooper Injured in Semi-Truck Accident on U.S. 64 in Transylvania County, NC
Transylvania County, NC — April 11, 2025, a trooper was injured as the result of a semi-truck accident that happened early Friday along U.S. 64.
According to initial details, the events happened from Brevard to Rosman and ended outside a home near Pickens Highway.

Investigators said a truck driver from Texas was in a truck that authorities tried to pull over for speeding. Police allege the driver drove off from the stop and fled along U.S. Highway 64. In the process, the truck crashed into two North Carolina Highway Patrol cruisers. Ultimately, the truck ran off the roadway and crashed off-road.
Due to the collisions, one state trooper sustained reportedly minor injuries. The truck driver is reportedly charged for assault with a deadly weapon, hit and run, and driving while impaired.

If these allegations are true, then clearly there will have to be consequences for the truck driver. But something I don't see the news talk about is if this man was employed by a company. If so, was there not any sign something like this might happen? Generally speaking, a driver capable of fleeing from and allegedly attacking officers isn't going to come out of the blue. There's usually some sort of history of behavior that a reasonable employer would see as disqualifying. A lot of companies, though, ignore shady pasts just to have someone behind the wheel moving product. If that's true here, there may be a company out there with other potentially dangerous drivers. If nothing else, it's a possible that should be ruled out.
