Wisconsin Man, 1 Injured in Truck Accident on I-90 in Elkhart County, IN
Elkhart County, IN — July 29, 2025, a Wisconsin man and one other were injured following a semi-truck accident at around 4:15 p.m. along I-90.
Authorities say that the crash happened north of Middlebury near the Highway 13/US 131 intersection.

According to officials, a 39-year-old Wisconsin man was in a pickup that was going eastbound along the Indiana Toll Road. Up ahead, it's said that a semi-truck was merging onto the toll road in front of the pickup. The pickup crashed into the back of the semi as it merged.
Due to the accident, the Wisconsin man had to be flown from the scene. The truck driver reportedly had minor injuries. Additional details about the crash remain unconfirmed.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
There seems to be a question still about the timing of the semi merging and the pickup crashing into it. Obviously, someone merging onto a highway has a duty not to cut off any passing motorists. At the same time, an approaching driver has a basic responsibility to avoid crashing into a merging vehicle if reasonably possible. That means investigations need to determine if the semi-truck left proper distance, signaled that they were merging, and otherwise made the maneuver as safely as possible.
One thing that makes that concerning is that the pickup driver had to be flown from the scene. A lot of the time when that happens, that victim isn't able to immediately provide a statement to give their side of the story. Authorities would have to follow up with them later on. Some officers understand that and take that step, but others sometimes get so caught up in the chaos of the preliminary investigations that they move on without actually following up with the victim who was taken to the hospital.
That's why a lot of folks end up seeking out independent investigations. Since they're not distracted by securing and clearing an accident scene, they can focus on the facts. It's possible such efforts would show that authorities are giving this accident the attention it deserves. But it might otherwise show that getting the full story here will require accident reconstructionists who have the time and tools to catch whatever authorities may have missed.
