Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
There's a saying that's very pertinent to crashes like this which says it's not about what you know—it's about what you can prove. People often see a crash with a driver being blamed and figure that means everything is open-and-shut. At the end of the day, though, it takes a lot of evidence to ensure victims and families get a proper resolution after a serious crash.
If authorities simply file citations and move on, they may not get all of that evidence. Unfortunately, I see this happen all too often, which is why those who have another set of eyes looking things over tend to fare better when it comes time to tell their story. I don't see why a crash like this would be any kind of exception to that.
