Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Right now, authorities mentioned looking into alcohol as a possible factor. Sometimes, that's just standard procedure because of how common drunk driving is. But if there is evidence to suggest it was a factor here, are authorities looking into where the alcohol came from? Simply put, alcohol providers can be on the hook if they illegally over-serve someone who then gets themselves or someone else hurt. This can be through criminal investigations, fines, license suspensions, or possible liability for the resulting injuries. Yet authorities often overlook this area of the law even when they do find alcohol contributing to a crash. That's why I have to wonder if the relative lack of information here is due to authorities being reserved or rather that they're not giving the accident the attention it deserves.
