Commentary
If the allegations here are true, people may think this will all just lead to drunk driver charges, and that's that. In reality, there could be more to the situation if investigations can find out where the alleged drunk driver got their alcohol from. In Texas, alcohol providers can also be responsible for contributing to serious accidents.
It's unlawful for bars, restaurants, liquor stores, and other venues to serve people who are obviously intoxicated. Doing so exposes those alcohol providers to potential criminal investigations, fines, or liability for the resulting injuries. If authorities are too focused on alleged drunk drivers, though, they may let these alcohol providers fly under the radar. Making sure they're brought to light and held accountable helps victims and families, and it gets negligent establishments to clean up their act before more people are hurt.
So while authorities seem to have taken steps here to see an alleged drunk driver held accountable, there could still be a lot more to the story. Is that getting the attention it deserves, as well?
