Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When it comes to any crash involving alcohol, folks sometimes are too quick to assume things are open-and-shut. In reality, things can be rather challenging depending on what all happened leading up to the crash. Even authorities often overlook the fact that alcohol providers often play accomplice to serious drunk driving wrecks. They, too, may have consequences to face.
Simply put, alcohol providers who unlawfully over-serve people that are obviously intoxicated can face consequences. They expose themselves to potential criminal investigations, fines, suspended licenses, or liability if the intoxication injures people. Not only does this provide an opportunity to punish those negligent establishments, it helps put them on the straight-and-narrow so their actions don't harm anyone else.
So while the immediate allegations surrounding this accident are concerning, they may only be part of the larger story. If authorities haven't investigated what happened here beyond the crash itself, they could be missing important details those affected by the crash deserve to know.
